Fit for Work - Managers: Managing alcohol, drugs & fatigue
Course Outline
It’s a simple fact that alcohol and other drugs are commonly consumed in our society. It is inevitable that this use will
have an impact on your workplace. The aim of this Fit for Work workshop is to equip managers with the skills needed
to ensure that employees are fit for work and capable of completing the tasks required of them without putting
themselves or others at risk. This includes understanding the problems relating to drugs and alcohol so managers are
better able to deal with them, as well as addressing the issue of fatigue.

- The impact of alcohol and other drug use on the workplace
- Preventing alcohol and other drug problems in
the workplace
- How to manage people whose behaviour is impaired
- Overview of fatigue and its effects
- How to manage fatigue
Expected Outcomes
At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Have a thorough understanding of the drugs used in
Australian society
- Understand and be able to recognise the effects of alcohol
and other drugs
- Be aware of the impact of alcohol and other drugs in the
workplace and understand their responsibilities in relation
to the issue
- Know how to prevent workplace problems caused by alcohol
and other drugs and be able to manage employees whose
performance may be impaired by their use
